New York, Sep 25 (V7N)- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Iran does not seek war with the United States and remains prepared to reach an agreement through negotiations.
He made the remarks during an exclusive interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier on Thursday (September 24).
Asked whether Iran was choosing war or an agreement, Pezeshkian said Iran had not chosen war and that the conflict had been imposed on the country.
He said Iran does not want the war to continue and argued that the United States must decide whether it wants to bring the conflict to an end. Reuters also reported that Pezeshkian said it was ultimately up to Washington to choose when the war would end.
Referring to a memorandum of understanding signed in June, Pezeshkian said Iran had agreed to a framework that was intended to lead to a broader agreement within 60 days. He blamed the subsequent breakdown on U.S. actions and disagreements surrounding the conflict and the Strait of Hormuz.
On Iran’s nuclear program, Pezeshkian denied that Tehran is seeking a nuclear weapon. He said Iran is willing to dilute its enriched uranium and allow international verification of its nuclear activities as part of an agreement.
Pezeshkian has also said Iran is prepared to engage in diplomacy but would not accept negotiations conducted under military pressure or blockades.
His comments came amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington, with diplomatic efforts focused on ending the conflict and addressing disputes over Iran’s nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz.
