Tehran, Sep 21 (V7N)- Iran has warned that any major new attack by the United States and its allies would trigger sustained retaliation against US bases and interests across the Middle East.
Iran's military issued the warning through state media on Sunday, saying it had information indicating that Washington and its allies were preparing for a possible new attack. The military did not provide details about the intelligence behind the claim.
Iran also warned that regional countries providing military support to the United States would be considered parties to the conflict.
The warning came amid renewed regional tensions following attacks claimed by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia. On Saturday, the Houthis said they had targeted sensitive sites in Riyadh and an Aramco facility in the Red Sea port city of Yanbu using missiles and drones.
Reuters footage showed a large plume of black smoke rising near Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport after explosions were heard in the Saudi capital. Saudi authorities did not immediately comment on the Houthi claims, while the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted a missile aimed at Riyadh and thwarted other attacks in several locations.
The United States also issued a security alert for the Middle East on Saturday, warning of the possibility of an unexpected deterioration in the regional security situation. US citizens were advised to exercise increased caution and prepare for possible flight cancellations and airspace closures.
The latest developments come as the confrontation between Iran and the United States continues to affect other conflicts and security issues across the region.
The prolonged conflict has also put pressure on global energy markets, with disruptions around key oil and shipping routes. At the same time, diplomatic efforts remain active, including possible contacts between US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the UN General Assembly in New York.
