Miami, Sep 07 (V7N)- An Amazon cargo plane skidded off the runway at Miami International Airport in Florida, killing five people and injuring several others, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft skidded off the runway shortly after landing at around 2:00 p.m. local time on Sunday (September 6). The aircraft had flown from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami.

According to reports, the plane veered off the runway, struck several vehicles and caught fire.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levin Cava said 21 Air Flight 7598 was involved in the accident. She confirmed that five people were killed and five others injured, and expressed condolences to the victims' families.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah said 10 people were involved in the incident. Three of the injured were taken to a trauma center in critical condition, while two others were transferred to a local hospital.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
