Dubai, Aug 8 (V7N) - The United Arab Emirates has condemned what it called a "hostile Iranian attack" on a tanker belonging to the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday .
The UAE foreign ministry stated the vessel was targeted with a missile, though no casualties were reported . Saudi Arabia also condemned the incident, warning it threatened maritime security and global energy supplies .
The attack comes as Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed talks with Oman on the strait's future management are "approaching the final stages" . However, he cautioned this does not mean the strait will reopen soon, stating the lifting of the blockade is "subject to other conditions and compensation for the violation of the memorandum of understanding by the United States" .
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) underscored that the strait's reopening "has its own mechanism and has nothing to do with the negotiations between Iran and Oman" . An IRGC spokesman confirmed the waterway will only open once the US accepts Iran's full terms .
Before the conflict began, the Strait of Hormuz carried approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas . ADNOC separately reported that 15 of its vessels have been attacked in the strait since the war started, including three in the past week alone .
