Quetta, Jul 03 (V7N) — At least 40 people were killed and eight others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a deep rocky ravine near the border of Pakistan's Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces on Friday.
According to a report by Al Jazeera, the accident occurred in the mountainous Dana Sar area when a bus traveling from Quetta to Peshawar lost control and fell into a steep gorge.
Sanaullah Sherani, head of the emergency center in Zhob district, confirmed the incident.
Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Balochistan government, said the crash took place in a remote border area early Friday morning. He confirmed that 40 passengers were killed, while at least eight others sustained injuries.
A rescue agency said the bus was carrying 48 passengers and was traveling toward Islamabad when the accident occurred.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched recovery operations in the difficult mountainous terrain. Authorities have begun investigating the cause of the crash.
