London, Jun 20 (V7N) – At least one person was killed and several others were injured after two trains collided north of London on Friday, according to British authorities.

The accident occurred in the town of Bedford, about 100 kilometres north of the British capital, when the front of one train struck the rear of another, Reuters reported, citing the British Transport Police.

Emergency services, including ambulance crews and an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene to rescue and treat the injured, the East of England Ambulance Service said.

Authorities have not yet released details about the identities of the victims or the cause of the collision. An investigation into the incident is expected to begin.

Following the crash, officials urged residents and commuters to stay away from the railway tracks to allow emergency responders and investigators to carry out their work safely.

Rail services in the affected area are likely to face disruptions as recovery operations and investigations continue.
