Tehran, Jun 08 (V7N) – Israel has launched a series of airstrikes targeting several key Iranian cities, including the capital, in a major escalation of tensions between the two regional rivals.
The attacks began shortly after midnight on Sunday and struck areas in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan, according to Iranian state media and statements from the Israeli military.
Iran's state news agency IRNA reported that at least two powerful explosions were heard in Tehran, while at least three explosions were reported in Isfahan. State broadcaster IRIB also confirmed multiple blasts in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan.
The Israeli military said its forces had carried out strikes against military targets in western and central Iran. However, it did not immediately provide further details regarding the specific targets or the extent of the damage.
The latest attacks came hours after Iran launched missiles toward Israel on Sunday night. Analysts believe the Israeli operation was a direct response to those missile strikes.
The escalation follows a major Israeli attack on a southern suburb of Beirut earlier on Sunday despite an existing ceasefire arrangement. In response to that incident, Iran reportedly fired missiles toward northern Israel.
There has been no immediate official report regarding casualties or damage from the latest Israeli strikes. However, the exchange of attacks has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict involving Israel, Iran and allied armed groups across the Middle East.
The situation remains rapidly evolving as both sides continue military operations and regional tensions reach one of their highest levels in recent years.
