Riyadh, May 27 (V7N)- The holy Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated today, Wednesday (May 27), in Saudi Arabia and most countries across the Middle East and other parts of the world with religious devotion and the spirit of sacrifice.

After offering Eid prayers in the morning, devout Muslims are sacrificing animals in remembrance of the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Almighty Allah.

In Saudi Arabia, pilgrims performing Hajj are also carrying out the ritual sacrifice in Mina before shaving their heads as part of the Hajj completion rites.

Due to time zone differences, Eid celebrations began earlier in countries such as Australia and New Zealand. The festival is also being observed today in Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and many Western countries.

In Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, the main Eid congregation is being held at the historic Al-Azhar Mosque in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, countries in the South Asian subcontinent, including Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, will celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on Thursday following local moon sightings and religious calendar observations.

Heads of state and government leaders from various countries have extended greetings to Muslims worldwide on the occasion of one of Islam’s most significant religious festivals.
