Chennai, May 10 (V7N)- Bringing an end to days of intense political drama, uncertainty and speculation, actor-turned-politician Vijay officially took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

Popularly known as “Thalapathy” among fans, Vijay was sworn in at a grand ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 10:00am local time.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected Chief Minister. Vijay took the oath in Tamil, prompting loud applause and celebrations from thousands of supporters gathered at the stadium.

Alongside Vijay, several ministers also joined the new cabinet after taking oath. They include N Anand, Adhav Arjun, Rajmohan, R Nirmal Kumar, P Venkataramanan, K G Arun Raj, K A Sengottaiyan, T K Prabhu and Selvi S Kirtana.

Leader of the Opposition in India’s Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, attended the ceremony along with leaders of alliance parties supporting Vijay’s government.

During the oath-taking event, Vijay appeared on stage wearing black trousers, a white shirt and a black blazer, drawing loud cheers from supporters.

Earlier on Saturday night, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar formally invited Vijay to form the government after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by securing 108 seats.

Later, TVK formed the government after gaining the support of Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M) and IUML, raising the alliance strength to 120 lawmakers in the assembly.

Political analysts say Vijay’s rise to power marks a major turning point in Tamil Nadu politics and signals the beginning of a new era in the state’s leadership.
