Tehran, Mar 8 (V7N) – Iran is expected to announce the name of its new Supreme Leader within the next 24 hours following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint attack by the United States and Israel last week.

According to Al Jazeera, citing Iran’s Fars News Agency, the Assembly of Experts—the body responsible for selecting the Supreme Leader—is set to hold a meeting to decide the country’s next top leader.

The report, published around 12:00 am Bangladesh time on Saturday (Mar 7), said speculation has already emerged over potential successors, including Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late leader. However, Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed any candidate.

Hossein Mozaffari, a member of the Assembly of Experts, urged the public not to spread rumors regarding the leadership transition.

“With divine assistance, a new meeting will be held within the next 24 hours. Please refrain from spreading any speculation until then,” he said.
