Tehran, Mar 1 (V7N) — Israeli intelligence sources have claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint strikes carried out by Israel and the United States. Citing those sources, the international news agency Reuters and Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 reported that Khamenei had died.

However, two Iranian news outlets — Tasnim News Agency and Mehr News Agency — stated that the Supreme Leader is still alive and is firmly leading the country amid the ongoing conflict.

According to Al Jazeera, the reports published by Reuters and Israeli media stand in complete contradiction to the accounts provided by Iranian news organizations.

Channel 12 had earlier reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was shown photographs purportedly depicting Khamenei’s body. The report claimed that he was killed inside the compound of his residence and that Iranian rescue teams later recovered the body from the site.

Meanwhile, on Saturday (March 28), large-scale strikes were reportedly launched by Israel and the United States targeting Khamenei’s residence. The U.S.-based newspaper The New York Times subsequently published a satellite image that appeared to show the residence completely destroyed and reduced to rubble.
