Pretoria, Dec 07 (V7N) – A tragic mass shooting at an unlicensed bar in Solsbeville Township, near the South African capital Pretoria, has left at least 12 people dead, including a three-year-old child, and 25 others wounded. The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, around 4:30 a.m. local time, while patrons were inside the bar. Fourteen of the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

According to Athlenda Mathe, spokesperson for the South African Police Service, three armed individuals suddenly entered the bar and opened fire indiscriminately. Among the deceased, in addition to the toddler, are a 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. The motives behind the attack remain unknown, and authorities have launched a major operation to apprehend the suspects.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in South Africa, which has struggled for years with organized crime, gang violence, and corruption. Police reports indicate that between April and September this year, an average of 63 people were killed daily nationwide.

The Solsbeville Township, located approximately 18 kilometers from central Pretoria, is known for small, informal establishments that often operate without proper licensing. Law enforcement officials have called for increased vigilance and community cooperation to prevent further violence.

South African authorities have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice and enhance security in vulnerable neighborhoods. The national government has also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged stricter monitoring of unlicensed venues across the country.

This shooting is among the deadliest incidents in South Africa this year, reflecting the continuing struggles of the country to combat violent crime and ensure public safety.
