Gaza, Oct 03 (V7N) – The Israeli Navy has intercepted the last remaining vessel of the Global Relief Flotilla, a ship named Marinette, just 100 kilometers from the Gaza coast. The interception took place on Friday morning local time, with Israeli forces boarding the vessel and detaining six people on board.
The Marinette was the final active ship of the flotilla’s fleet of 44 vessels, which had been attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. With this interception, the flotilla has effectively been halted by the Israeli Navy, ending what had been seen as one of the largest international civilian efforts to challenge the blockade on Gaza.
Meanwhile, several international media outlets have reported that human rights activists detained by Israeli forces have begun a hunger strike. The detainees are protesting Israel’s prevention of the flotilla from reaching Gaza with humanitarian relief supplies.
The interception of the flotilla has drawn strong criticism from global rights groups, with calls for Israel to release the detainees and allow the safe passage of aid to Gaza’s civilian population, who continue to face acute shortages of food, medicine, and essential supplies.
