Oviedo, Oct 04 (V7N)- World champions Spain maintained their perfect start to the UEFA Nations League with a 3-1 victory over Czechia in Oviedo on Saturday, extending their winning streak to 10 matches.

Lamine Yamal opened the scoring inside six minutes with a superb finish, curling the ball from outside the penalty area into the far corner. The Barcelona forward continued his impressive run of form for the national team.

Spain doubled their advantage in the 35th minute through Rodri. The midfielder exchanged passes with Dani Olmo before firing a powerful shot into the top corner to give Luis de la Fuente's side a 2-0 lead.

Czechia pulled one goal back in the 69th minute when Jiri Sláma beat Spain goalkeeper David Raya with a low finish, giving the visitors renewed hope of a comeback.

However, Czechia's chances were reduced when captain Ladislav Krejčí was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. Spain took advantage late in the match, with Mikel Merino scoring in the 89th minute to secure the victory.

The result leaves Spain at the top of Group A3 with nine points from three matches. England are second with six points after their 7-0 victory over Croatia on the same day.

Spain will travel to face Croatia on October 6. A victory would strengthen their position in the group and move them closer to securing a place in the Nations League quarter-finals.

The win also extended Spain's unbeaten run to 41 matches and marked their 10th consecutive victory, according to UEFA.

Spain are competing in the Nations League after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while they also lifted the Nations League trophy in 2023. The reigning world champions are now firmly in control of Group A3 after three successive victories.
