Brighton, Sep 20 (V7N)- Defending champions Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the English Premier League season on Saturday, losing 3-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion at the American Express Stadium.
Brighton took control from the opening stages and broke the deadlock in the 31st minute through Pascal Groß, whose impressive strike gave goalkeeper David Raya no chance.
The hosts doubled their advantage shortly before halftime. Charalampos Kostoulas found the net with a long-range effort, sending Brighton into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Brighton continued to dominate after the restart and added a third goal in the 57th minute. Chema Andrés headed the ball into the net to put the hosts firmly in control.
Arsenal struggled to respond as Brighton maintained their pressure and defended their advantage effectively. The visitors were unable to find a goal before the final whistle.
The defeat was a major setback for Arsenal, who had conceded just one goal in their opening league matches before Saturday's game but allowed three against Brighton.
The result saw Arsenal drop to second place in the Premier League standings, with Manchester City moving into first place on goal difference.
