Potchefstroom, Sep 03 (V7N)- Towhid Hridoy has created another piece of history with the bat in Potchefstroom, South Africa, becoming the highest individual scorer by a Bangladeshi batter in first-class cricket.
The right-handed batter surpassed the previous record held by veteran opener Tamim Iqbal, who scored an unbeaten 334 for Eastern Zone against Central Zone in the 2019 Bangladesh Cricket League at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Hridoy went past Tamim’s record and remained unbeaten on 350 runs, adding another milestone to his remarkable innings against South Africa ‘A’.
Bangladesh ‘A’ resumed the fourth and final day with four wickets in hand after Mohammad Saifuddin was dismissed on the previous day. The visitors suffered an early setback, losing two wickets in quick succession.
At that stage, Hridoy was batting on 225 runs after the fall of Bangladesh ‘A’s eighth wicket. He then formed a crucial partnership with Rezaur Rahman, who came in at number nine.
While Hridoy continued to score steadily at one end, Rezaur provided valuable support, remaining unbeaten on 31 off 110 balls.
Hridoy eventually reached 350 off 481 balls, while Bangladesh ‘A’ declared their innings at 676 for eight.
Earlier, Hridoy had already made history by becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score a triple century in the first innings against a South Africa ‘A’ side on foreign soil.
His unbeaten 350 has now placed him at the top of Bangladesh’s first-class individual batting records, surpassing one of the country’s most experienced openers.
