Barcelona, Aug 18 (V7N)- Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of Spain captain and World Cup winner Rodri from Manchester City.

The Catalan club announced the transfer on Tuesday (August 18), confirming that the 30-year-old midfielder has signed a contract with Barcelona until 2030.

The formalities of the transfer were completed after Rodri underwent his medical examination. According to Spanish media reports, Barcelona have paid around €76.5 million to secure the midfielder's services.

Rodri arrived in Barcelona on Monday and said that joining the Catalan giants had been a dream of his. He also expressed his excitement about beginning work with his new teammates.

The midfielder has enjoyed an exceptional career with both club and country. He played a key role in Spain's second World Cup triumph, winning the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player. He was also instrumental in Spain's success at Euro 2024 and won the Ballon d'Or that year.

Rodri joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019. During his time at the English club, he became one of the most important midfielders in world football. He also scored the decisive goal in City's 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the 2023 Champions League final.

His departure is a significant blow to Manchester City's midfield. The English club have already lost Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid this season, further weakening their options in the middle of the pitch.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are strengthening their squad as they aim to win a third consecutive La Liga title. Alongside Rodri, the Catalan club have also signed English forward Anthony Gordon and are reportedly close to completing a deal for defender Joao Cancelo.
