Liverpool, Aug 08 (V7N) – Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo has left Barcelona to join Liverpool on a one-year loan deal, with the English club reportedly retaining an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
The move comes as Liverpool look to strengthen their defensive depth amid a series of injury and squad concerns. Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are currently sidelined with injuries, while Ibrahima Konaté has reportedly departed for Real Madrid, leaving Liverpool with fewer options in defense.
Liverpool are understood to have brought in the 27-year-old Araújo to provide additional defensive cover and experience during the season.
Araújo's move to England also comes after the defender lost some prominence in Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick's preferred starting lineup.
The Uruguayan has accepted Liverpool's offer and will now spend the season at Anfield, with the possibility of turning the temporary move into a permanent transfer depending on the terms of the agreement.
The loan deal gives Liverpool an opportunity to assess Araújo's performances before deciding whether to make his stay permanent at the end of the campaign.
