Frankfurt, May 22 (V7N) – Germany have announced their final 26-member squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer making a sensational return to international football.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann unveiled the squad at a press conference in Frankfurt on Thursday.
Neuer, 40, had retired from international football following UEFA Euro 2024 and previously stated that he had no plans to wear the national team jersey again. However, Nagelsmann convinced the experienced goalkeeper to return ahead of the World Cup and confirmed him as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper for the tournament.
The Bayern Munich star is now the only remaining player from Germany’s 2014 FIFA World Cup-winning squad to feature in the upcoming competition.
Midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been named captain of the side. Young star Jamal Musiala also returned to the squad after recovering from injury.
Winger Leroy Sane retained his place despite criticism over his recent performances, while attacking stars Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz were also included.
Germany’s squad includes a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talents as the four-time world champions aim to reclaim football’s biggest trophy.
