Dhaka, Nov 20 (V7N) — Bangladesh’s Mr. Dependable, Mushfiqur Rahim, marked his 100th Test match with a remarkable century on the second day of the Mirpur Test, becoming only the 11th cricketer in Test history to achieve the feat.
Resuming play on Thursday morning, Mushfiqur remained composed, taking no runs in the first over of the day before reaching his milestone century in the very next over. He brought up his 13th Test hundred off 195 balls and celebrated with his trademark style.
Before this, Mushfiqur had scored 12 Test centuries, including three double tons. However, this century stands out as a historic achievement in his illustrious career. He is also the first Bangladeshi cricketer to play 100 Test matches, becoming the 84th player overall and the 26th from Asia to reach the landmark. The last batter to score a century in his 100th Test was Australia’s David Warner, who hit a double century in 2022.
Bangladesh had started strongly on the opening day, finishing at 292 for 4. Openers Shadman Islam (35) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (34) put up a 52-run stand. Mominul Haque added 63 runs, forming a valuable 107-run partnership with Mushfiqur before being dismissed.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto managed only 8 runs, but Liton Das later joined Mushfiqur to stabilize the innings, ensuring Bangladesh ended the first day with a solid total.
Mushfiqur’s century has turned the Mirpur Test into a memorable chapter in Bangladesh cricket history.
