Liverpool, June 20 (V7N) – Liverpool have officially signed German playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a blockbuster deal worth £100 million.

The five-year contract was finalized after the 22-year-old successfully completed his medical at the club’s training ground on Friday. Under new head coach Arne Slot, Wirtz will remain at Anfield until 2030.

This deal surpasses Liverpool’s previous transfer record of £75 million, paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018. Including bonuses, the total package for Wirtz could reach £116 million, setting a new English football transfer record.

Wirtz made his Bundesliga debut in 2018 at the age of just 17. Since then, he has registered 57 goals and 44 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen. He became the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history in 2020 with a memorable goal against Bayern Munich.

Recognized for his creative playmaking and dribbling ability, Wirtz was named the Bundesliga’s most influential dribbler last season, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists.

Internationally, Wirtz has already earned 31 caps for Germany and is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in European football. Liverpool beat off stiff competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich to secure his signature.

Wirtz’s arrival is expected to add significant strength to Liverpool’s attacking midfield as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League and European campaigns.
