Mumbai, May 12 (V7N) – With 16 matches still remaining in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL)—including four playoff games—the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said it will consult the central government and other key stakeholders before confirming a resumption date for the tournament, currently suspended due to Indo-Pak tensions.
This update comes as the tournament enters its second day of suspension on Sunday, following a seven-day halt announced by the BCCI on Friday (May 9). Only five days now remain in the initial suspension period.
BCCI Secretary Debjit Saikia stated that the board will begin consultations within the next 48 hours, involving franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and state authorities designated to host the remaining matches.
“Given the IPL’s national importance, the BCCI considers it necessary to seek guidance and approval from the Government of India,” Saikia said. “Only after receiving feedback from all parties will we create a roadmap for resumption.”
Saikia emphasized that no decision would be made without input from the government and security agencies, especially in the current sensitive geopolitical climate. The BCCI is monitoring the situation closely, and will announce a revised schedule only after all necessary consultations are completed.
The BCCI is reportedly aiming for a 12 to 14-day window to wrap up the remaining fixtures of the tournament.
