Berlin, Sep 22 (V7N)- A US F-16 fighter jet crashed at Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany on Tuesday, with the pilot ejecting safely and receiving medical treatment, the US military said.
The aircraft was returning to Spangdahlem following a routine training flight involving four F-16 fighter jets when the crash occurred. Emergency response personnel were dispatched to the scene.
The US military said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The remaining three F-16s diverted to Ramstein Air Base following the incident and landed safely, according to the military statement.
Germany's air traffic control authority separately said four F-16s had been involved in the training activity. Two aircraft were still in the training area while two were returning to Spangdahlem when the crash occurred.
The incident occurred at the US military installation in Rhineland-Palatinate, which hosts F-16 aircraft assigned to the US Air Force's 52nd Fighter Wing.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the pilot's condition or what caused the aircraft to crash. The investigation is ongoing.
