Dhaka, Sep 23 (V7N)- Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has said various forms of moral degradation and social decay are emerging because moral education is receiving insufficient attention in society.
He said a lack of moral education makes it difficult for people to understand the basic distinction between right and wrong.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion titled “Young Journalist Change Maker: Voice for Vulnerable Children” as chief guest at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
The event was organized by the Local Education and Economic Development Organization (LEDO).
Dr. Zahid Hossain said the state has a responsibility to ensure education and fundamental development opportunities for every child up to the age of 18.
However, he noted that many children leave school prematurely because of a lack of awareness or indifference among their guardians.
The minister said the government is implementing various initiatives with priority given to the safety, rehabilitation and protection of underprivileged street children and children with special needs.
He stressed that protecting children and ensuring their rights requires collective efforts from all sections of society.
Dr. Zahid Hossain called on individuals and organizations to come forward at every level to uphold children's rights and create a safer and more supportive environment for vulnerable children.
He also emphasized the importance of education and moral development in building a responsible and socially conscious generation.
