Jerusalem, Jun 09 (V7N) – Israeli author and political analyst Gideon Levy has claimed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s long-standing strategy regarding Iran has failed to achieve its intended objectives.

In an analysis published on Qatar-based Al Jazeera on Tuesday, Levy argued that Netanyahu’s political vision of weakening or defeating Iran through military pressure has been proven ineffective by recent developments.

He said that despite years of advocacy for a hardline approach and recent Israeli strikes targeting Iranian interests, there has been no significant strategic shift in Iran’s position or internal stability.

According to Levy, Netanyahu had made the confrontation with Iran a central element of his political agenda, believing that sustained military pressure could force a decisive outcome. However, he said recent events suggest that such assumptions were “not realistic.”

Levy added that even if Netanyahu does not publicly acknowledge it, the current situation indicates that the long-term strategy has not produced the expected results.

He also criticized hard-right Israeli ministers who have called for continued military operations in the Middle East, even suggesting actions independent of United States policy.

Describing such rhetoric as dangerous, Levy warned that these positions are not grounded in accountability or strategic realism.

“Those making such claims are not accountable for the consequences,” he said, adding that Israel cannot sustain prolonged conflict independently and that escalation could further destabilize the region.

He further cautioned that renewed cycles of violence involving Iran would be unlikely to achieve strategic goals and could instead deepen regional instability and prolong conflict.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing debates within Israel over military strategy and foreign policy direction.
