London, Jun 13 (V7N) – Veteran Labour politician Angela Eagle has been appointed as Britain's new Security Minister following a major reshuffle in the government triggered by the resignation of Defence Secretary John Healey.

The British government confirmed the appointment on Friday (June 13) local time. Healey stepped down from his post amid disagreements over defence budget allocations and military spending plans. Shortly afterward, the Armed Forces Minister also resigned.

In response to the developments, Prime Minister Keir Starmer initiated a reshuffle within the government. As part of the changes, former Security Minister Dan Jarvis was promoted to the position of Defence Secretary.

Following Jarvis's move to the Defence Ministry, Starmer appointed Dame Angela Eagle as the country's new Security Minister.

Healey had been widely regarded as a respected figure within the UK's defence establishment. His unexpected resignation has sparked concerns within the Starmer administration and raised questions about future defence spending priorities amid growing international security challenges.

The government has indicated that the reshuffle is aimed at ensuring stability and continuity in national security and defence policy during a period of increasing geopolitical uncertainty.
