Islamabad, Sep 26 (V7N) – A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan on Friday morning, with tremors felt across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed.
The quake’s epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan, at a depth of 195 km, with coordinates 36.51°N, 70.98°E, according to PMD.
Residents reported feeling tremors in Chitral, Peshawar, Swat, Attock, Lower Dir, and Upper Dir, with local media describing the shaking as “mild.”
Earlier this month, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan killed more than 1,400 people and caused significant property damage, with tremors also felt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Another 5.9 magnitude quake previously shook the Hindu Kush region, affecting twin cities and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
