Dhaka, Oct 21 (V7N) – Bangladesh recorded four more deaths from dengue virus in the past 24 hours up to 8:00 am Tuesday, bringing the total fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year to 251, according to the latest bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the deceased, three were women and one was a man. They were receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital, Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital, and Galachipa Upazila Health Complex in Patuakhali. Their ages were 16, 70, 30, and 55 years respectively.

The health directorate reported that 814 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours, increasing the total hospitalizations for the year to 61,605. September recorded the highest monthly hospitalization with 15,866 patients, resulting in 76 deaths.

Up to October 21, 14,363 dengue patients have been admitted this month, with 55 fatalities. July saw 10,684 hospitalizations, January 1,161, February 374, March 336, April 701, May 1,773, June 5,951, and August 10,496. In July, dengue claimed 41 lives; January 10, February 3, April 7, May 3, June 19, and August 39. No deaths were reported in March.

Among the new admissions in the last 24 hours, 277 patients were from Dhaka City Corporations, 121 from Dhaka division outside the city, 46 from Mymensingh, 114 from Chattogram, 40 from Khulna, 40 from Rajshahi, 41 from Rangpur, 126 from Barishal, and five from Sylhet.

Currently, 2,831 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals nationwide, including 967 in Dhaka and 1,864 in hospitals outside the capital. Bangladesh has maintained hospital admission and death records for dengue since 2000. In 2023, the country recorded the highest dengue hospitalizations at 321,179, with a record 1,705 deaths.
