LONDON, April 1, (V7N) — Chelsea have reported a Premier League record pre‑tax loss of £262.4 million ($349.3 million) for the year ending June 30, 2025, while also topping the league’s spending on agents’ fees this season.
The previous highest loss was £197.5 million by Manchester City in 2010/11. Chelsea had posted a profit of £128.4 million the year before, aided by the sale of their women’s team to a subsidiary company for nearly £200 million.
The club said the losses were driven by increased operating costs in 2024/25. Revenue stood at £490.9 million, the second‑highest in Chelsea’s history, boosted by earnings from winning the Club World Cup.
A Football Association report released Wednesday showed Chelsea spent £65.1 million on agents’ fees in 2025/26, far ahead of Aston Villa (£38.4 million). Overall, Premier League clubs spent £460.3 million on agents’ fees.
Last month, Chelsea admitted breaching Premier League rules over £47.5 million of undisclosed payments under former owner Roman Abramovich. The club was fined £10.75 million and handed a suspended one‑year transfer ban, but avoided a points deduction after self‑reporting and cooperating with investigators.
Despite the record loss, Chelsea were deemed compliant with the league’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) for the three‑year period ending 2024/25, which allow maximum losses of £105 million but exclude certain spending categories such as women’s football and youth development.
Chelsea also announced their women’s team, champions of the Women’s Super League for three consecutive seasons, posted a £17.1 million loss despite generating £21.3 million in revenue.
