Lahore, Feb 01 (V7N) — Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq’s bowling action has once again come under scrutiny, this time on the international stage, following the second T20I against Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The controversy arose during Saturday’s match when Australian all-rounder Cameron Green appeared to question Tariq’s bowling action while batting. Green was dismissed for 35 off 20 balls, caught at point while attempting to play the fifth delivery of the 11th over bowled by Tariq.
After his dismissal, Green was seen repeatedly imitating Tariq’s bowling action while walking off the field. He later continued the gesture near the Australian dugout, mimicking a baseball-style throwing motion in front of team coaches, sparking speculation of a possible complaint regarding “chucking.” However, no official statement has been made by Cricket Australia or match officials.
Usman Tariq responded to the incident on social media. In an Instagram story, he shared an image of a crying child captioned “after being out,” seemingly mocking Green’s reaction and describing it as childish.
Despite the controversy, Tariq delivered an effective performance, taking 2 wickets for 16 runs in 2.4 overs.
Batting first, Pakistan posted a strong total of 198 runs, led by captain Salman Ali Agha’s 76 and a half-century from Usman Khan. In reply, Australia were bowled out for just 108 runs, with Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan leading the bowling attack.
Pakistan secured a 90-run victory, sealing a T20I series win over Australia for the first time in seven years.
It is not the first time Usman Tariq’s bowling action has drawn attention. While representing Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, his action was reported twice by umpires. He subsequently underwent biomechanical testing and was cleared to bowl after passing the assessment at the Lahore Cricket Academy.
No formal complaint has been lodged following the Lahore T20I so far.
