Dhaka, June 19 (V7N) — England captain Ben Stokes has expressed that India will deeply feel the absence of Virat Kohli in their upcoming Test series in England, emphasizing the void left by Kohli’s fighting spirit and competitive nature on the field.

Kohli, who captained India in the last Test series against England, led by example with his aggressive and passionate style of play. However, the scenario is very different this time as Kohli has retired from Test cricket and will be watching from the sidelines.

The captaincy baton has now passed to Shubman Gill, but the cricketing world continues to talk about Kohli’s impact. Stokes lamented the absence of the Indian star, highlighting the iconic rivalry that existed between the two players.

“I think India will miss Kohli’s fighting spirit on the field, his competitive attitude, and his unrelenting desire to win,” said Stokes. “Kohli’s aggression and hunger for victory are unlike anyone else’s. He made the number 18 jersey his own. It’s strange to think someone else will wear that number now.”

Despite their fierce on-field battles, Stokes pointed out the strong mutual respect and friendship they share off the pitch. “I texted Virat after his retirement. I said it’s very sad not to be able to play against you anymore. I love playing against Virat, and he loves it too. We share the same mentality. Our fight at 22 yards is just a game, but it’s a passionate battle.”

Kohli retired as India’s fourth highest run-scorer in Test cricket, amassing over 9,000 runs in 123 matches, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, leaving an indelible mark on international cricket.
