SHARJAH, May 22 (V7N) – Bangladesh has suffered a 2-1 T20 series defeat against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sharjah, marking their second series loss to an ICC partner country after a previous defeat to the United States last year. Despite taking an early lead in the three-match series, the red-green representatives faltered in the subsequent games. This historic victory is the UAE's first T20 series win against a Test-playing nation.
Bangladesh captain Liton Das attributed the series loss to a combination of the team's poor performance and challenging playing conditions. "Dew had a negative effect on all three matches in the series. Our bowlers suffered a lot due to dew on the field. Neither the pace nor the spinner could bowl comfortably as the ball got wet," Liton explained.
After securing a win in the opening match, Bangladesh failed to capitalize, losing the second match despite setting a challenging target for the hosts. The UAE successfully chased down the score, tying the series with a two-wicket victory. The series-deciding third match saw a comprehensive failure across all three departments for Bangladesh: batting, bowling, and fielding.
"Actually, we could not play well. If we had played, we would have definitely won the match," the captain admitted, highlighting significant shortcomings in bowling and fielding, and a "completely inadequate" batting performance in the final game.
Bangladesh's next cricketing assignment is a series in Pakistan, the fate of which has been decided after much discussion. Regarding the team's plan for the Lahore tour, Liton Das stated that the focus would be on rectifying the mistakes made in the recent series and striving for a better performance against the Men in Green.
