Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) — The National Citizens Party (NCP) staged a protest march in the capital on Saturday night, protesting alleged post-election violence and attacks on its leaders and supporters in Hatia, Noakhali.
March from Bangla Motor Office
The procession began from the party’s Bangla Motor office and moved through adjacent streets, drawing participation from party activists and supporters. NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari took part in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Asif Mahmud alleged that party members in Hatia have faced repeated intimidation and attacks following the recent election period. He called on authorities to ensure security for political activists and take legal action against those responsible.
Call for Justice in Hatia Case
NCP leaders also demanded swift justice in a reported gang-rape incident in Hatia. They warned that if the perpetrators are not brought to justice, the party would mobilise women across the country in protest.
Criticism of BNP
In his remarks, the spokesperson criticised what he described as growing “anarchy,” alleging involvement of leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He said that if such activities are not stopped before taking oath, those responsible would face consequences similar to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
There was no immediate reaction from BNP leaders at the time of filing this report.
Protest Ends Peacefully
The protest concluded peacefully later in the night, with NCP reiterating its demand for an impartial investigation into the incidents in Hatia and urging authorities to take effective measures to prevent further violence and ensure justice.
