Dhaka, Oct 30 (V7N)- Eight like-minded political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Andolan Bangladesh, have submitted a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, placing five key demands — the foremost being the holding of a national referendum by November.
On Thursday (October 30) noon, leaders and activists of the participating parties brought out a procession from Agargaon intersection and marched to the Election Commission (EC) office, where they formally handed over the memorandum.
Before the march, a brief rally was held at Agargaon, where Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Abdul Halim addressed the gathering. He said, “A referendum must be held by November to give legal legitimacy to the July Charter. National elections should then be held in February, based on that framework. The revised RPO order should also be implemented.”
Party leaders at the event alleged that the law and order situation remains unstable, making it difficult to ensure a level playing field for the upcoming national elections. They called on the Election Commission to take concrete steps to restore public confidence and fairness in the electoral process.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and other allied parties gathered in front of the EC building, chanting slogans and displaying banners in support of their demands.
