Dhaka, Oct 28 (V7N)- BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has accused the National Consensus Commission of attempting to establish national disunity instead of unity.

He made the remarks to reporters after a meeting with Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 28).

Salahuddin Ahmed said the commission submitted its recommendations to the government today, including a new Constitutional Reform Council proposal that was not discussed in the Consensus Commission meetings. “They cannot impose something that was not discussed,” he stated.

He criticized the recommendations for proposing that the upper house be formed in proportion to votes in the lower house, saying no such decision was made during the meetings. He also opposed the 270-day time limit set for implementing reforms, calling it “ridiculous” and likening it to an auto-pass in an exam.

The BNP leader said the commission appeared to be trying to sideline BNP through its recommendations, but expressed hope that the reforms would be implemented through a legal and constitutional process. He added that if the people approve the July National Charter via a public vote, the next Parliament would be obliged to implement it, respecting the Note of Dissent and the consensus reached.
