Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N) – The body of Badruddin Umar—one of Bangladesh’s most prominent political leaders, writers, researchers, theorists, and intellectuals—was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar on Monday morning for the nation to pay its final respects.
His body arrived at the Shaheed Minar at 10 am, where it will remain for a period to allow people from all walks of life to honor his legacy.
Umar, widely respected beyond his political identity, was recognized as a profound writer, researcher, and analyst who offered deep insights into the country’s political changes and social transformations. In 2025, he was nominated for the Independence Award, Bangladesh’s highest civilian honor, but he declined to accept it.
Badruddin Umar, aged 94, passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka after a long struggle with age-related complications. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, one son, and countless admirers who revered his lifelong commitment to free thought, social justice, and intellectual independence.
