Dhaka, Aug 09 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has emphasized the need to strengthen the spirit of democracy from the local to the national level, saying the people of the country want change and accountability.

Tarique Rahman made the call while virtually addressing the conference of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a pro-BNP doctors’ organization, on Saturday (August 9).

He said, “The reforms currently being discussed were highlighted by 99 percent of BNP two years ago through a comprehensive 31-point plan. As BNP leads the upcoming elections, we aim to create a democracy of accountability based on transparency.”

At the same event, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir echoed the call for change, stating that the prevailing culture of mutual violence has devastated the nation and must be overcome.

Referring to Tarique Rahman as the future Prime Minister, Fakhrul said, “BNP has already presented 31 points, which include the most vital reforms the country needs. Health is one of the key priorities. Therefore, beyond just the right to vote, all fundamental human rights must be ensured.”
