Dhaka, Aug 06 (V7N) – The Mass Solidarity Movement has welcomed the Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus's announcement regarding the timing of the upcoming national election and emphasized the need for justice, reforms, and public security to ensure a meaningful democratic transition.

The party expressed its stance in an official statement signed by Chief Coordinator Jonayed Saki and Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel on Tuesday (August 5) night, shortly after Dr. Yunus’s address to the nation.

Call for Justice and Reforms Alongside Elections

The statement described the setting of an election timeline as a positive development, stating that national elections are a crucial step toward democratic stability. It stressed that justice, reform, and elections must proceed in tandem, noting that the process of justice is already underway but must be accelerated and made fully transparent.

“The Mass Solidarity Movement has always said that justice, reform, and elections are the responsibility of the government and must be pursued simultaneously,” the statement read.

Regarding ongoing reform efforts, the party noted progress and called for the early completion of the July Charter, which it believes will solidify the foundation of reforms.

Proposal for a Constitutional Reform Council Election

Highlighting the unique nature of the current political juncture, the party proposed that the upcoming election should serve as an election to a Constitutional Reform Council. According to the statement:

“The parliament formed through the next election should both govern and finalize the reform process. This is an extraordinary responsibility and a national challenge.”

The party urged the interim government to ensure equal opportunities for all political forces in the electoral process and to take immediate steps to restore public confidence in elections.

Election to Be Held Before Ramadan

In his address to the nation, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus announced plans to hold the national election before Ramadan, specifically in February 2026, and pledged to send a formal request to the Election Commission to initiate preparations accordingly.

The Mass Solidarity Movement concluded its statement by reiterating its demand for a fair, inclusive, and reform-oriented electoral process, stressing that only such an approach could lead to a truly sustainable democratic system.
