Dhaka, Aug 02 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has strongly criticized those advocating for alternative models of state reform, accusing them of undermining the principles of parliamentary democracy.
Speaking at a memorial meeting in Nilkhet, Dhaka, on Saturday (August 2), marking the 5th death anniversary of BNP's late Vice Chairman Abdul Mannan, Khasru alleged, “Those who are coming up with new theories for state reform do not believe in the parliamentary system. They are pushing an agenda that sidesteps democratic institutions.”
Referring to historical global trends, Khasru warned that countries which failed to return to democracy promptly after revolutionary periods often descended into civil wars. “We must learn from history. Attempts to bypass electoral processes only deepen national crises,” he said.
He also accused those calling for non-parliamentary transitions of actively obstructing the electoral process in Bangladesh. “BNP believes in democratic change through elections. Those who want change beyond the ballot box are not working for the people—they are working to derail democracy.”
Khasru reiterated BNP’s demand for a free and fair election and called on political forces to uphold the constitution and democratic norms.
