Dhaka, Aug 02 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been admitted to a private hospital in the capital for urgent bypass surgery after being diagnosed with five blocks in his heart, three of which are considered critical.
He was taken to the hospital on Saturday morning, accompanied by Jamaat Secretary General, Nayebe Ameer, and other senior party leaders. The surgery is being conducted to clear the three most dangerous blocks and restore proper blood flow.
Dr. Rahman had first fallen ill on July 19 shortly after participating in Jamaat's national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka. Initially, doctors suspected dehydration and no major complications were found in early tests. However, as his condition persisted, more detailed examinations revealed five coronary artery blockages.
While the medical board recommended that he seek treatment abroad, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman chose to undergo surgery in Bangladesh. He reportedly said that his decision was made to reinforce public confidence in the country’s medical system.
Party sources say he is currently under observation, and further updates on his health will be provided after the surgery is completed.
This development has sparked concern among Jamaat supporters and political observers, as Dr. Rahman is a central figure in the party’s leadership amid the current political climate.
