Chittagong, July 21, (V7N) – Ahead of the National Citizens Party’s (NCP) July march from Chittagong to Khagrachari, NCP’s northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam addressed reporters on Monday morning, responding to recent comments made by BNP spokesperson Ishraq Hossain.

Sarjis Alam criticized Ishraq Hossain’s emotional remarks and called for more ‘mature’ political discourse. “The Awami League is a banned party, and the people of Bangladesh do not care about their strike. What they are doing amounts to terrorism. We trust the law enforcement agencies will take appropriate action,” he said.

Regarding political culture, Sarjis said, “To fix Bangladesh’s political environment, everyone must play their part. Even if some statements, like those made by our chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari in Cox’s Bazar, were not well received, Ishraq Hossain’s recent remarks—full of insults and disrespect—are a step below. If we expect good from others, we must do better ourselves.”

Sarjis expressed hope for a respectful political relationship among all parties, pledging that the NCP will strive toward this goal.

Ishraq Hossain, in response to accusations of political immaturity, said, “My recent statement was made out of emotion. I did not see any political maturity in Sarjis Alam’s response. We hope to see the same Ishraq Hossain who stood firm in the anti-fascist fight. Such statements are unexpected from me.”

At the event, NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain assured that the party would provide all required information to the Election Commission within the stipulated time and confirmed there is no issue with the party’s registration.
