Dhaka, July 18, (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has said that the BNP is not desperate to return to power, asserting that the desire of others to come to power by excluding the BNP will never succeed as long as even one member of the party remains alive.

He made these remarks while addressing a silent procession and prayer program organized in memory of the martyrs of the July-August uprising. The event was held in the capital’s Paltan area on Friday afternoon.

Beginning at 3 PM, leaders and activists from various city wards brought out processions that converged at Paltan and marched toward Malibagh, ending in front of Abul Hotel.

In his speech, Abbas said, “If any of the martyrs were alive today, they would feel ashamed. Their sacrifices are being dishonored. Some are exploiting their memory to advance their own political interests. A certain pir who once criticized Jamaat is now in alliance with them. Jamaat once held ministerial positions through BNP, but today's political reality is different.”

He continued, “We want a united country that moves forward. Many are trying to equate BNP with the Awami League. But BNP will not be provoked into conflict. Still, if pushed into a corner, circumstances may force action.”

Reiterating that BNP is not obsessed with power, Abbas warned, “Even if one BNP member remains, no one else will come to power by excluding us. The government is behaving with bias. If elections are not held, we will assume you are deliberately trying to create unrest.”

The program ended with a prayer in memory of those who lost their lives in the July-August movement.
