Dhaka, July 1 (V7N) — The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has launched a month-long nationwide campaign titled “July March to Rebuild the Nation” to commemorate the anniversary of the July Uprising. The program began on Tuesday, July 1, with a tribute at the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed in Pirganj, Rangpur. NCP Convenor Nahid Islam and other central leaders departed Dhaka just past midnight on June 30 to participate in the inaugural day of events.
Senior leaders including Secretary Member Akhtar Hossain, South Region Convenor Hasnat Abdullah, North Region Convenor Sarjis Alam, and Joint Convenor Abu Sayeed Leon were present for the grave tribute and first day’s march. The campaign is set to continue through July 29, covering districts across the country, before concluding in Dhaka on July 30.
According to an NCP press release, each division has been assigned a regional convenor to coordinate activities: Dr. Atikur Rahman in Rangpur, Monira Sharmin in Rajshahi, Molla Rahmatullah in Khulna, Faisal Mahmud Shanto in Barishal, Zubairul Hasan Arif and Navid Nawroj Shah in Chattogram, Ehtesamul Haq in Sylhet, Niaz Mehrab Talukdar in Mymensingh, and Abdur Rahman and Azad Sobhan al-Bashani in Dhaka.
Throughout the march, leaders will meet families of martyrs and victims of the uprising in various districts. No major events are scheduled in Dhaka during this period.
On the first day, the program included a grave visit at 9:00 AM, followed by a march from Sadullapur, Gaibandha at 11:00 AM, and a rally at the Gaibandha Shaheed Minar. A large-scale procession and public meeting took place in Rangpur at 3:00 PM, with another rally scheduled in Pirgacha at 7:00 PM.
NCP has also declared July 16 as “Anti-Discrimination Martyr Day” to honor Shaheed Abu Sayeed and other victims. August 3 will mark the reading of the July Charter and Manifesto at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, protesting unmet government commitments. On August 5, the party plans to observe “Student-People Liberation Day” nationwide, commemorating the fall of autocracy.
Sarjis Alam is serving as the central convenor of the July March, with Anik Roy as Secretary Member.
