Beijing, June 25 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that China is ready to work with Bangladesh’s new government. His remarks came on Tuesday following a meeting with Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong in Beijing.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The Communist Party of China showed great interest in this visit. We held a fruitful discussion. One of the key outcomes is that both parties have agreed to hold a political dialogue every two years. This marks a significant achievement, and we believe an unprecedented relationship between the BNP and China is beginning to take shape. China will continue to prioritize Bangladesh’s development while emphasizing that people must remain at the center of that progress.”
According to the BNP leader, the Chinese side also expressed its hope for a free and fair election in Bangladesh. During the meeting, the BNP delegation requested China’s continued support in various sectors including agriculture, industry, garments, healthcare, and infrastructure. They also urged China to take steps to reduce trade imbalances and provide assistance in advanced technology and skill development.
The BNP delegation included Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and Selima Rahman; Chairperson's advisers Zahir Uddin Swapan and Ismail Jabihullah; Professor Dr. Sukomal Barua; head of BNP’s media cell Dr. Maudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel; and ABM Abdus Sattar, personal secretary to the party chairperson.
Earlier, on Monday, a 90-minute meeting was held between representatives of the BNP and the Communist Party of China (CPC), where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing South Asian geopolitical dynamics.
A member of the visiting BNP delegation said that during this meeting, the Vice Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee formally invited BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to visit China.
The BNP delegation is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on June 28.
