Dhaka, May 06 (V7N) – The National Citizens Party (NCP) has presented an outline of fundamental state reforms to the National Consensus Commission. The Commission has accepted the NCP’s reform proposal, which will be incorporated into the second phase of discussions.
On Tuesday (May 6), NCP leaders participated in a dialogue with the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the National Parliament where they formally handed over the reform proposal.
Speaking on the matter, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain stated, "We have proposed fundamental reforms to prevent a fascist situation like the one Bangladesh faced in the past."
He emphasized that the proposed fundamental reforms do not aim to simply amend the electoral system or the constitution based on a two-thirds majority of parliamentary seats. Instead, they focus on achieving three key objectives: balance of power, accountability, and decentralization. These, he explained, form the core foundation of the NCP’s reform proposals.
Akhtar further elaborated, saying, "Today, we will discuss the establishment of a Public Administration and Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, along with revisiting previous concerns raised during earlier discussions."
The dialogue session was led by Akhtar Hossain and included other NCP leaders such as Sarwar Tushar, Javed Rasin, and Sarjis Alam, the party’s chief organizer for the northern region.
The discussions were chaired by National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and moderated by Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider. Other members present included Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, and Dr. Mohammad Ayub Mia.
In his opening remarks, Professor Ali Riaz confirmed that the National Consensus Commission has accepted the NCP’s fundamental reform proposal and that it would be included in the second phase of discussions. He added that the Commission expects to conclude the dialogue with the NCP by May 15.
