Dhaka, May 03 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has proposed two potential timeframes for the upcoming national election, taking into consideration the country’s weather and socio-political climate. The party’s Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, also emphasized the need to ensure the trial of fascism before the election process begins in earnest.

He made these remarks at the District and Metropolitan Ameer Conference held at Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar, Dhaka on Saturday morning.

In his keynote address during the first session, Dr. Rahman outlined two proposed election periods—either February, before the holy month of Ramadan, or by April at the latest, should sufficient progress in reform and justice be visible by then. He stressed that public trust in the process would only be restored if there is a visible and credible move toward accountability and structural reform.

“If the reform process is genuinely expedited and relevant stakeholders cooperate sincerely, then elections can indeed be held within the timeline announced by the government,” he added.

Criticizing recent recommendations from the Women's Affairs Reform Commission, the Jamaat chief rejected both the commission and its proposals, asserting that "any recommendation that contradicts the Quran will not be accepted by the people." He called for the abolition of the commission, aligning with broader conservative demands raised at recent public rallies.

Dr. Rahman also cautioned members of the interim advisory government, stating that if any advisor intends to make political remarks, they should first resign from their official role. "Neutrality must be maintained if this government is to oversee a legitimate electoral transition," he said.

These remarks come amid ongoing national dialogues and growing calls from various political entities for a restructured, accountable, and inclusive electoral process, including proposals for a national charter within six months, as previously outlined by the National Consensus Commission.
