DHAKA, May 07 (V7N)– Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today reiterated the government's commitment to punishing those whose negligence facilitated former President M Abdul Hamid's departure from the country.

"Those involved in it must face the music," he firmly stated.

The Home Adviser made these remarks to journalists after inspecting the immigration process at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

He informed the media that a committee has already been formed to thoroughly investigate the entire incident and has been instructed to submit its report within three working days.

"After getting the probe report, legal actions will be taken against the responsible people," he assured. He also noted that several police officers have already faced disciplinary action in connection with the matter.

Responding to a question regarding a copy of a travel ban on Abdul Hamid allegedly sent to the Home Ministry, the Home Adviser stated he was unaware of it but promised to look into the issue, assuring that the probe body would address it.

Addressing the public inconvenience caused by road blockades demanding a ban on the Awami League (AL), he urged all concerned to stage their protests in alternative locations to avoid disrupting public life. He also called upon journalists to play a role in raising public awareness about this issue.

When asked about the government's efforts to bring back ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through Interpol, the Home Adviser confirmed that these efforts are ongoing. "We're trying to make it through the Interpol which will take measures as per their laws," he said.

Earlier, on May 8th, two senior police officers were withdrawn from their posts, and two others were suspended due to their negligence in performing duties that reportedly aided former President Abdul Hamid's departure from the country.

The disciplined officers included Kishoreganj Police Super Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury and Additional Superintendent of Immigration Police Tahsina Arif (withdrawn), as well as SI Azharul Islam (investigation officer in the July uprising case against Abdul Hamid and others) and ATSI Md Solaiman of the Special Branch (SB) of police (suspended).

The Police Headquarters has also formed a three-member investigation committee, headed by Additional IG (Admin) Md Matiur Rahman Sheikh, to further probe the incident.

Former President Abdul Hamid, ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and 122 others face accusations in a July uprising case filed with Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station on January 14th. They are accused of involvement in an attack on an anti-discrimination student movement during the August mass uprising in Kishoreganj.
