Faridpur, Dec 27 (V7N) — A concert by renowned Bangladeshi band star James was cancelled on Friday night after an attack by outsiders left at least 20 students injured at Faridpur Zilla School.

The concert was organized on the school premises as part of celebrations marking the institution’s 185th anniversary. The incident occurred around 9:00 pm, shortly before the performance was set to begin, prompting authorities to call off the event over security concerns.

According to organizers, a group of outsiders attempted to enter the venue moments before the concert. When members of the organizing committee and volunteers tried to stop them, the group became aggressive and began throwing bricks and stones while attempting to seize the stage. As a result, between 15 and 20 students were injured by flying debris. Several of the injured received first aid at the scene.

Organizing committee convener Mustafizur Rahman Shamim said the decision to cancel the concert was taken on the directive of the Faridpur district administration, prioritizing student safety. He said ensuring the security of students was the foremost concern under the circumstances.

Rajibul Hasan Khan, convener of the anniversary event implementation and media subcommittee, said all preparations for the concert had been completed, but the sudden attack by outsiders was unexpected. He added that it remained unclear who carried out the attack and why, describing the injuries to students as deeply unfortunate.

Law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene following the incident and brought the situation under control. Organizers and students have demanded the identification of those responsible and strict legal action against the attackers.
