Narsingdi, October 17 (V7N) — On Friday evening, October 17, 2025, a commemorative program was held at the district Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Narsingdi to observe the 135th Tirodhan (death anniversary) of the mystic bard Fakir Lalon Sai. The event included a panel discussion and cultural performances, and was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi and President of the District Shilpakala Academy, Mohammad Anowar Hossain.

Mohammad Anowar Hossain declared that Lalon Sāi remains an inseparable part of Bangla history and culture. He said, “For over three centuries, we have listened to Lalon’s songs. I sit in awe, for when time passes, these spiritual expressions—and the ‘unknown bird in a cage’ of his lyrics—will no longer be accessible. His songs are not merely music; they are mantric practice and the highest stage of humanity. Lalon’s vision allowed no religion, caste, or lineage; through humanity, he sought to give space to all.”

He further emphasized that though many aspects of culture have faded over time, Lalon’s music, his ideology, and his message of humanity remain firmly woven into our social and cultural reality. He noted that Rabindranath and Nazrul were inspired by Lalon’s songs, and that if society can internalize Lalon’s message of oneness and humanism, the observance of this Tirodhān day would be meaningful.

The program was chaired by District Cultural Officer Runa Laila, with Altaf Hossain, headmaster of Velanagar Government Primary School, serving as master of ceremonies. Among the special guests were Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Md. Kalimullah and Civil Surgeon Dr. Syed Md. Amirul Haque (Shamim). Various tier-level Lalon performers from across the district presented renditions of Lalon’s songs.
