Los Angeles, Aug 8 (V7N) – Over two decades after the release of Disney’s cult classic Freaky Friday, the original cast has returned for the much-anticipated sequel, Freakier Friday, which hits theaters nationwide on Friday, August 8, following its premiere in Los Angeles on July 22.

The 2003 film, which starred Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as a mother-daughter duo who magically switch bodies, was a major hit and became a defining film for a generation. At the time, Lohan had not yet broken out in Mean Girls, Jamie Lee Curtis had yet to win an Academy Award, and Chad Michael Murray was just beginning his rise to teen stardom.

The story, adapted from Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name, has seen several interpretations across film, television, and stage. However, the 2003 version remains the most iconic, known for its humor, heart, and its fresh take on generational understanding.

In Freakier Friday, the sequel revisits the original characters in a new chapter of their lives. Much of the original cast returns, with Lohan and Curtis reprising their roles, this time navigating the complexities of adult life, family dynamics, and another unexpected body-swap twist.

Fans of the original film have expressed excitement over the reunion, which blends nostalgia with a modern-day storyline. Disney has promised the sequel will retain the heart of the original while exploring themes relevant to today's audiences.

Freakier Friday is directed by Nisha Ganatra and is expected to be one of Disney’s major summer releases in 2025.
